If you're heavily into bodybuilding and figure at the national level these days, you'll realize that this is the last weekend with any major down time until after the Olympia at the end of September (we're so busy we'll even welcome *not* having a Palm Beach Pro show in October this year).  So rest up - but not too much - and if you find yourself with a little extra time on your hands check out one of these events.

Muscle Beach East - Mr. and Ms. Jones Beach USA Bodybuilding

Jones Beach on Long Island is known for the hot women that frequent it during the summer months. Across the sand of every field located there, every day is a sizzler. But on Sunday, August 24th, the stage will take the place of the sand when bodybuilding and weight lifting legend Dan Lurie will bring a little bit of California to New York with the Mr. & Mrs. Jones Beach USA Bodybuilding Competition. 

Classes are Men’s Bodybuilding (short, medium, tall); Women’s Bodybuilding (short, tall); Master’s Bodybuilding (40 and over, 50 and over) and the Beach Body Contest, which will bring the same beauty and intensity as fitness and figure competitions.

Ken Jones, an IFBB professional and a past winner of the Mr. America and Mr. World titles, will be a guest poser. The panel of judges will include Steve Michalik (head judge), Leon Brown, Anibal Lopes, Freddy Ortiz, Mario Strong, Angel Evans, Paul Bernstein, Lidia Szczepanowski, Joseph Reaiche, Amy Llinas, Tony Coppeta, Dr. Gerard D’aversa, Dr. Elias P. Bonaros, Mark Lurie, Dr. Tony Badal, Matthew Kantar, Dr. Mitchell Herman, Dr. J. Alexander Jarbath, Stephen Kucker, and Robin Cristo.

Yes that's *the* Amy Llinas that you're thinking of - the superstar NPC figure and fitness athlete who moved to New York from South Carolina.

Admission is free to the public and only $20 for contestants to enter the open competition.  Team Tug-of-War will also be held, with teams of ten able to enter for a fee of $10.00.  Best of all, proceeds will be donated to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

619Muscle Parking Lot Bash and Supplement Expo

Time:  Saturday from 11am to 3pm

This event has a star-studded lineup that includes male pro bodybuilders (Mr. Olympia) Jay Cutler, Flex Lewis, Brandon Curry, and Troy Alves.  And even more importantly, IFBB figure professional hotties Meriza DeGuzman and Krissy Chin.  Meriza competed at the Olympia last year and was in incredible shape last week in Dallas, while Krissy has an excellent chance to get to this year's Olympia, with two major competitions coming up in the next three weeks.  So get out there and support them both!

Reality Show Casting Call - So You Think 'Youse' Got a Good Body?!?

It seems like the only Big Brother commercials I see have shirtless, arrogant bodybuilding dudes getting kicked out of the house for, well, being arrogant.  So after they are booted where can they go?  How about trying out for a new reality show with the working title "So You Think You Got a Good Body"?

There will be an open casting call at Jones Beach, where Italian-American firefighters will likely mix with the gay crowd from Fire Island Beach, sure to create excitement in and of itself.  But this is a real show so bring your A-game to the festivities that begin at 11am on Sunday at the Jones Beach Bathhouse.  You'll need to be in a bathing suit and be toting a full length photo of yourself. 

2008 NPC Florida State Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure Championships

Location:  Orlando, Florida

This is a major event, because the top placers have the opportunity to move onto the national level, and it's in the central location of Orlando.  Last year featured some notable rising NPC figure stars like Dixie Reynolds, Khristy Poteat, and Patricia Nguyen.  The Florida State is also the only show where, technically, the winners get to call themselves state champions.

If you get lucky, you might see some of the rising stars who competed at the NPC Tampa Extravaganza recently, like Julia Zamanito or Jessica Ulbrik.

And as an added bonus, IFBB Fitness Pro and all-around hottie Maria Bellando (pictured) will be there to guest pose.

2008 NPC Alabama State Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championships

2008 NPC South Carolina Excalibur Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championships
