2008 NPC San Diego Figure Championship - Spotlight Athlete TINA QUARLES
March 15, 2008
FigureRX Online Magazine Volume 3
Sometimes we find an athlete who we think is a rising star, and it causes us to select a spotlight competitor for a show a little early! We are happy to announce that figure competitor Tina Quarles found out three weeks ago that she is pregnant and as a result she will be sitting out the 2008 contest season.
Tina says that it will be very difficult for her to watch from the sidelines, especially since she had very ambitious plans for this season including moving on to the national level. But obviously the circumstances are very welcome and she plans on starting her training again as soon as the baby arrives in September. FigureRX has named her as our second "Impact Athlete" for 2009, along with Tara Thatcher. We'll save most of her info for her impact athlete interview, but we want to tell you a little bit about this talented competitor with a huge future in the NPC.

Tina grew up in a small town in Oregon, where she was a a five sport athlete in high school and a two sport athlete in college, where she earned a degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. She excelled in basketball, volleyball, soccer, track and field, and softball, before moving on to a very successful modeling career. You may have seen her as one of the 2005 Maxim Magazine Hometown Hotties, or in background shots and as a body double on CSI. Tina has extensive training as an actress at the Portland Actors Conservatory, and in addition to being a certified trainer she is a makeup artist and has experience with handguns and assault weapons.
Tina's Fast Facts
Where: North Hollywood, California
Height: 5' 9"

Last year Tina competed in her first fitness show, a FAME event in September, and she won the fitness modeling round and placed second in the bikini round. She went on to compete in the Fitness American Pageant in November, and now is determined to move to the NPC. As she transitions, she has been working to add 3-5 lbs of muscle. For her contest prep, she works with David Allen Nutrition in Woodland Hills, California. Tina, we look forward to seeing you on stage in 2009!

2008 NPC San Diego Figure Championship - Spotlight Athlete LILIA SANDOZEQUI
March 15, 2008
FigureRX Online Magazine Volume 4
Lilia Sandozequi served notice that she would be making an impact at the national level this year when she stepped on stage at the NPC San Diego, with a more streamlined and harder physique than she brought to the Ironman a month before. She has a superb overall shape including excellent quads, glutes and delts.
Lilia took second place in Figure A in San Diego, and received several first place votes from the judges during the two piece round. With even more time to make refinements to her conditioning, Lilia will be turning heads at the USA's in Las Vegas and Team Universe in New York - in what is already a highly competive national Figure A class.
Lilia's Fast Facts:
Name – Lilia Sandozequi
Height – 5'1â€
Weight – 110 lbs contest/ 115 lbs off season
Birthday – September 6th
Home town – Aguascalientes, Mexico
Hair / Eyes – Dark Brown
Favorite music – R&B and Salsa
Favorite diet food – eggs
Favorite cheat food – In N Out
Current occupation – Personal Trainer
Athletic background – Track, cheerleading
Web site – http://www.myspace.com/96687096
-------
Please tell us a little bit about your background, such as where you grew up, your family, other athletics, when you began weight training, and how you became interested in competing.
I was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico. At the age of fifteen, I came to the United States due to the poor living conditions in my city. We moved to Santa Monica, California. Here, my sisters would always take me to Venice Beach, and I would visit Muscle Beach, where I saw the weight trainers in action. I soon became interested, and told my sisters I wanted to be just like them. In high school, I joined track, and continued for the rest of my high school career. I also joined weight lifting, and was the only girl to do so.
What is your academic and professional background? What is your current occupation and how long have you been doing it?
I graduated high school in 1992. From there, I continued my education with some college experience. I am currently a housewife, and I'm going to school for medical training.
What is your training philosophy (heavy or light, cardio, lifting)? Any particular body parts that you consider to be strengths, or weaknesses?
As a competitor, I use free weights to build muscle and cardio to become conditioned. My strength is my quads while my hamstrings are my weakness.
Is there anything in particular that you focused on between the Ironman and the San Diego show?
I do not focus on one body part in particular, but my body as a whole. I believe that each and every time I compete; I should show up better than the time before.
Where do you find the best training and diet advice? Where do you work out and who do you work out with? Is there anyone in particular who you would like to thank, such as a sponsor, significant other, etc?
My husband is both my trainer and nutritionist. I go to him for training and diet advice, and I can trust him to give me good, solid tips. Sometimes, my husband and I work out together. He is there to support me and keep me going. I would like to thank him for that.
Do you have any role models in fitness/figure?
Monica Brant
Thanks Lilia!!
