do you think this will only further discourage competitors from competing in an already dwindling sport? with only three shows the classes should be larger but I'm almost wondering if it'll make people not want to compete now...or maybe only hold off for a team u or something...
figured I'd ask on this board since y'all seem to be way knowledgeable about this stuff

Hey gymdiva,
As a national level fitness competitor, I am ecstatic that there is another show opportunity for me to get my pro card. There are 2 less pro cards than in previous years which will keep the pro ranks strong, but another show and another date which gives us more options.
I think the Jr. USA's will bring more fitness girls than usual, even if there is only 1 card being given. Jr. Nationals is always a good show for fitness as it's right before Team U, but now with no fitness at Team U, it will pick up those girls since it's during the summer and class winners get pro cards.
The fitness classes may be small now that many are crossing to figure, but there are still a few of us die-hards that love the athletic component and will stick to fitness as long as we can!

no team u is now fitness nationals...did you mean no fitness at nationals?
and team u is in sept now instead of july...which sucks b/c I rather enjoyed that little four week gap b/w the shows last year...worked out just perfect!

I know, it's a bit confusing. Yeah, I meant no fitness at Nationals.
In the past, many of us used Jr. Nats as a warmup for Team U since Jr. Nats wasn't a PQ and they were only 1 month apart. Now with the 2 1/2 month gap, that makes for a long season to do both.
Now with Jr. USAs in May though, there's a nice little gap between that and Jr. Nats... which is my plan this year.

yeah if I had been ready to prep for jr usa's I would have done the same thing...I still just wasn't ready mentally for that kind of prep after the three shows last year...plus it gives me more time to work on my physique issues like wider lats, more capped delts, and maybe some better skin rebound on da booty!

Too funny! So which shows are you doing - Jr. Nats and Team U?

well, I think financially it is going to be too much of a squeeze to do jrs...I looked and looked at it but I'm not sure I can make that one happen...so I think I'll try team u and then do two local shows to get in more practice and more feedback and of course, more fiddling with the fitness physique look...we can practice and experiment more with the diet and training and try to nail it down more for next year's shows...

Good plan. It's definitely a process. When I first started I wanted to run it like a sprint, but I quickly lost steam. Now I'm just trying to get better and better each year, so I like taking more time off in order to make more noticeable improvements.
So, you are a crossover from figure? Cool!

ha, my bad! Sorry, I'm new to this board. I think that's awesome though... I've competed in all 3 divisions. BB is really fun too, but fitness is definitely the most fun I've had.

I have a feeling fitness is going to be for me all the way...the routine is more my speed when it comes to performing...the physique rounds are going to take some doing for me though! hahaha...we'll see what I can come up with b/w now and sept!

Just go for it! You definitely have the right attitude. Best of luck in your training.
