She was a hometown favorite. WNY's own link to the Olympic Games happening on the other side of the planet. Now, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) is honoring the Olympian who brought home a silver medal for the USA's women pole vaulting team. There were signs all over the area that cheered Jennifer Stuczynski on and now those fans have the chance to honor her and other sports heroes at Kleinhans this Saturday, October 11th.

Stuczunski received a lot of local support because she grew up in Fredonia. She played college basketball at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester. Though she didn't take up pole vaulting until her senior year at college, she quickly became an all-star. The BPO wishes to recognize that stardom as guest conductor Carl Topilow welcomes her to the sounds of John Williams' Olympic Fanfare.

Joining Stuczunski will be amongst other sports stars including Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres alumni. Buster Bison is even scheduled to make an appearance. This fun-fulled event pays tribute to the great sports players from the WNY area. Tickets start at just $29.50 and with a chance to meet a sports hero, the price is considerably low. Though the concert is the main attraction, the BPO is adding on a bonus to those 21 years old or older - a tailgate party.

The BPO is combining the sports themed music with another time-honored sports tradition - the tailgate party. Free beer and chicken wings donated by local merchants will be available after the performance for those old enough, making this event one that the family can enjoy, but that the average sports fan can also get into. To find out more about this event, including how to purchase tickets, visit the BPO's website.
