Australia’s top bodybuilder - and best hope for a hometown win - Lee Priest will not compete in the 2009 Australian Grand Prix.

This will undoubtedly disappoint the thousands of fans who have eagerly anticipating the comeback of one of the most prolific IFBB competitors, who was suspended from the IFBB until last year.  Lee has indicated that he will have surgery this Wednesday in Australia (that is Tuesday, February 10th in the United States) on a torn bicep tendon, which needed to be screwed back on to the bone and stitched. After that, he won’t be able to move the arm for six weeks.  The arm injury had been clearly visible in several photos posted recently on message boards, including the picture attached to this article which is courtesy of GetBig.com.

According to promoter Tony Doherty, “Lee is going in for surgery this Wednesday which will make it impossible to compete on March 14th. He will still be there to meet and greet the fans and to have a chat on stage“.

That's too bad - I'm sure the hometown crowd will be disappointed - as will his thousands of fans worldwide.
