Tampa's Lingerie Bowl is Called Off

The highly anticipated intra-state lingerie football league battle between the Tampa Breeze and the Miami Caliente has been called off at the last minute.

The Lingerie Football League has called off its game this week at the Caliente Spa and Resort near Tampa, but it wasn't economics that shut it down.  The reason — a conflict over where nudity would be allowed.

When the organizers of the Lingerie Football League couldn't obtain the proper permits to stage their event in a West Tampa vacant lot, they opted for a place called Caliente, which bills itself as the most luxurious of the dozen "clothing-optional'' resorts that allow Pasco County. Florida, to call itself "the nudist capital of the world.''

The game was scheduled to be held at an empty field on the gated community’s property.  Caliente was excited about the event until promoters suggested the locals there would need to dress, which they aren't about to do.  Several of the players, who feared they would need to go local, quit, saying they didn't sign up to play completely naked or in front of naked spectators. The league responded by saying it fired those players for "a lack of dedication.''  The resort said the Lingerie Football League wanted the area around the field to be declared a “clothes-required” field.

A spokeswoman for the resort said: “I can tell them where they can’t have clothes on (the pool), but I can’t tell them where they must have clothes.”
