BW:  Hi Krissy!  You looked amazing in Jacksonville, congratulations! Is there anything in particular that you attribute to improvements between 2007 and this year?

KC:  Thank you so very much!  I felt great in Jacksonville and I placed better than I thought I would amongst all those amazing PROs competing that weekend.  Since coming off the 2007 season, I have been working extremely hard to make needed improvements for the 2008 season.  I will be quite frank with you, I started off the 2007 season strong on the National NPC stage with two second place finishes and then winning my class at Figure Nationals and earning my IFBB PRO card, which was an absolute dream come true.  I then jumped into my first PRO show the following week and placed in the top 10 (7th), which I was also very pleased about.  I then had a huge, I mean HUGE wake up call in my last show of the season - the Europa where I placed 16th - yikes!  It was not the way I wanted to finish the season but it did make me realize that I did need to make tremendous improvements in order to be competitive on the PRO level.  I got valuable feedback from the judges and I also brainstormed with Dave Palumbo, my prep coach and my husband Troy to see what I needed to do for the 2008 season.  We changed around my training with a large emphasis on bringing up the size and shape of my legs.  This year, we also manipulated my diet protocol around to make sure that my conditioning was where it needed to be to fit within the new criteria.  Furthermore, being of asian genetics, it has been a bit of a challenge not coming in too lean and hard and to present a fullness to my muscle bellies especially my glutes.

I am just so happy that the judges have liked the improved package that I have brought onto the 2008 stage and are rewarding me for it.  It is such a great feeling knowing that yes, hard work and dedication does pay off.  In Jacksonville, when I made first round call outs and actually stood in line with Jane Awad, Mary Lado, Kristal Richardson and Jessica Paxson -  these are amazing women who I looked up to as an amateur, I was so excited that I really thought I was going to fall out! To be compared to such incredible and beautiful women - wow! What an honor! Then I had the icing on the cake when I won the Best Presentation Award.  It really did feel like Christmas!  I am just thrilled and blessed that all my hard work off-season is now paying off on the 2008 stage.

What are your goals for New York, and for the rest of the competition year?  We believe you will get a "Big O" invitation during the next two weekends, but do you plan to continue your quest in Anaheim if necessary?

I would be lying if I was to say I wasn't in it to win it.  I firmly believe that if I do everything right, I mean everything, I have a great shot at taking home the NY PRO title.  I never train to be second, call me crazy but I am just that competitive by nature and I always have been since as long as I could remember.  I am also realistic and I do realize that considering the caliber of women competing in New York it is going to be a battle.  You have women who have qualified for the Olympia already as well as women who have placed top 5 this year like myself who just missed an Olympia qualification.  Plus, you have newcomers on the stage so it really is anyone's show that is why I need to do EVERYTHING right.  New York is my hometown, where I was born and raised and it is also where I got my PRO card last year.  I truly believe that things happen for a reason and that includes the timing and the place in which it occurs.  If I do not get an Olympia qualification in New York then I hope to in its neighboring state of New Jersey ... LOL.  Then if by some chance it does not happen in my old stomping grounds, I will need to re-evaluate and I will not be competing in Anaheim.  I will just be a spectator in Anaheim cheering on my fellow PROs and friends like Meriza DeGuzman!

Krissy Chin New York Pro

This is of course where you won your much deserved pro card last year.  Do you think that it will feel any differently to be on stage there again?

I think it will feel different than last year because I will now be stepping on the stage where I earned my PRO card as an IFBB PRO.  Plus, I am even more excited this year because I am bringing a much stronger and balanced package to the New York stage after a productive off-season.

We think that it's pretty remarkable, everything that you have been able to balance over the past year with the moves.  What have been the biggest challenges, and how are you enjoying California?

Thank you!  This year has been a challenge but I am always up for a good challenge.  Packing up a house and driving cross-country with two energetic dogs is quite a chore to say the least!  Add on top of that taking on a new administrative position within the company, which includes quite a bit of travelling.  I am on the road or on a plane almost every week.  I have really been challenged with having to manage my time and schedule accordingly.

I absolutely love California! The weather is gorgeous (no humidity like Miami) and the people here are just awesome :).

What is the expected time frame for your web site, and what do you plan to include?  Will you be doing any online training (recommending ALR supplements of course)?

I am currently working with Isaac of Lift Studios to hopefully have my website up and running within the next month.  I will be updating it on a monthly basis and I plan on having a blog, galleries and an online store, which will include ALR Industries' supplements that I use for my prep as well as online services.  Please stay tuned for my website,
www.krissychin.com coming real soon!

Thanks Krissy, and good luck in New York!!

Thank you BW.  I greatly appreciate your time and consideration for this preview of the New York Show!  I look forward to seeing everyone next week in the BIG Apple!
