Nicole Coleman - Lady, That's Some 'Body'
Nicole Coleman's aesthetic appearance amazed the judges of the 2008 New Orleans Bodybuilding and Figure Championship and at the USA Figure Championships in Las Vegas.
Ms. Coleman placed first in the Short Class and won the overall competition this past June. She also won second place in the National Physique Committee (NPC) Greater Gulf States Bodybuilding and Figure Championship. According to the judging at the NPC Louisiana Bodybuilding and Figure Championships in Lafayette, Nicole had achieved physical perfection; she placed first in the Short Class and took the overall honors.
The relative unknown, having achieved astonishing finishes in these three competitions, was encouraged to enter the 2008 NPC USA Figure Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada in late July. She walked away with fourth place in that Class A Figure competition.
The native of New Orleans is a former homecoming queen of Eleanor McMain High School, a graduate of the University of New Orleans, and the second place winner of the 2003 Miss Black USA pageant.
Standing at a petite 5'1", Nicole says she became dissatisfied with her weight and decided to do something about it.
"I know I wasn't eating well, I didn't know what healthy eating was. I took it upon myself to do research," she told The Louisiana Weekly.
According to her, her drive for a beautiful body did not end with the typical 36", 26", 36" figure most women dream of. During her research she ran across photos of women who had sculptured bodies that revealed pronounced biceps and triceps.
"I wanted to look like that", she said, so Nicole began the process of maximizing muscle hypertrophy through weight training, caloric intake and rest. She spends countless hours training and also works as a personal trainer with others who are committed to a healthier lifestyle.
Now that she has the competitive itch, Nicole hopes that her dedication will lead to a pro title which could offset the cost of the travel, specially prepared foods, and the beautifully beaded, expensive, one and two piece poising suits; in the pro division that would also include an evening gown.
Many of the ladies Nicole competes against have personal trainers and nutritionists, Nicole has neither.
She does have the support of her family. Her assistant, travel companion, and financial supporter is her mother Cynthia Coleman, who also helps apply tanning lotion prior to competition and they often do each other's nails.
"She is my inspiration, she is very dedicated and she is focused," says Nicole's mom.
"Her daddy was the same way, he stayed in the gym, and he was a 'health nut'. I am proud of her and I'm sure her father would be; he was her number one fan," the elder Coleman continued.
Nicole's father died following Hurricane Katrina.
Riding the wave of success Nicole is gearing up for the NPC Team Universe Bodybuilding and Figure Championship completion to be held in New York this September. Whatever the results, we can expect to see more of Nicole Coleman in future women figure championships.
